Prof. Dr. Cemal Şanlı

Prof. Sanli is the founding partner of Sanli Law Firm, a litigation and arbitration boutique law firm based in Istanbul, Turkey. As a professional lawyer experienced in dispute resolution, Prof. Sanli’s practice concentrates on international commercial and investment arbitration, international transactional disputes and other international private law matters.
Prof. Sanli graduated from Faculty of Law at Istanbul University in 1977. He became an assistant in the Department of International Private law at Istanbul University in December 1977. He received the degree “Doctor of Law” on May 7, 1985 with his dissertation entitled “Applicable Law in International Commercial Arbitration.” He completed his PhD dissertation on International Arbitration in the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies of the University of London.
He became an assistant professor at Istanbul University Law School in 1987, associate professor in 1990 and Professor in 1996. Prof. Sanli is the former Chairman of the Department of International Private Law of Istanbul University. He is retired from Istanbul University at the beginning of 2017. Still, he continues practicing law at Sanli Law Firm.
Besides his professional and academic career, Prof. Sanli served as a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Board of Turkish Airlines between 2002 and 2014.
